How Soul Food Is Destroying the Soul of Shemetic People

Soul food, the heart and kryptonite of Black America, has become its own cuisine rooted in community, history, and fortitude. The expression ‘soul food’ originated in the mid-1960s, when "soul" was a common word used to describe African-American culture.


But what even is African-American culture?


After all, Africa and America are two continents that seem to want nothing to do with Black people as they struggle to find community and identity in both locations. Does “African American” not denote the tragic history of indentured servitude, slavery, kidnapping, and trafficking amongst a long list of other atrocities? What culture are we trying so hard to preserve, and how can we return to our true culture and identity that we held prior to the Transatlantic Slave Trade?
