A formal apology by over 100 delegates from Ghana will take place Wednesday, September 28, 2022 in Kansas City.
A special ceremony will be held at Quindaro Underground Railroad in Kansas City where over 100 delegates from Ghana will issue a formal apology for the role the country played in the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
Nana Obokese Ampah I, Founder and President of the Obokese University of Excellence, told Black Enterprise, "It's time to say what needs to be said to all African Diaspora and we must have the conversation and resolve our actions and inactions as rulers of our Kingdoms during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade which is deeply regretted."
This event comes as a direct vision of the United Nations Decade of People of African Descent. The goal is to "reach out to all our displaced brethren of the global Diaspora to begin anew and heal from the unmentionable horrors faced by enslaved people."
This ceremony is a two-day event in Kansas City that will bridge an exchange of trade, tourism, and culture between UNESCO City of Music and UNESCO Ghana.
Ghana was a hub for the British slave trade for over 150 years. Over 10 million were sold, traded, and transported in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Some never made it to a final destination as they were captured by slave traders in coastal raids or sold to West African and European slave traders.
Will this formal apology come with tangibles for those displaced and affected by the Transatlantic Slave Holocaust?
