Major global events have taken the earth by storm in the past month. As we've witnessed from the past two years, the beginning of a new Babylonian year always sets the precedence for the duration of the year. And since 2020, each year has been increasingly chaotic. Let's take a look at major events that have plagued the world in the first month of 2023.
Police Brutality
Since the beginning of 2023, police have killed at least 7 unarmed people. Of these, the most media-recognized case occurred on January 7, 2023, when five Black police officers brutally assaulted Tyre Nichols of Memphis after a traffic stop for reckless driving. This assault led to his death on January 10, 2023. Since then, the officers have been charged with second-degree murder and have been asked to be decertified, meaning they could never serve as police officers in Tennessee. A photo of Nichols's battered body was even sent from an officer to several different people including two fellow officers. These events have sparked protests in the city of Memphis as well as in the Black community. President Biden is even calling for Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

Mass Shootings
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have already been 60 mass shootings in the US since January 1, 2023. Of these mass shootings, the Lunar New Year shootings in Monterey Park on January 21, 2023, and Half Moon Bay on January 23, 2023, have gained the most media coverage. Events like these have prompted legislation to push for further gun reform, especially as we come closer to the election year in 2024. Will the decisions of legislators make a difference in what has been occurring? Or is this just another sign of the times?

Fears of Famine
Over the past two (almost three) years, rumors have circulated that we are on the brink of food shortages and famines. In the past two years, there were at least 90 events that took place at food processing facilities worldwide resulting in shortages and setbacks. The nation has seen a major rise in the price of eggs. What's the cause? On January 28, 2023, a fire broke out at Hillendale Farms, one of the United States' top egg producers, leaving over 100,000 hens dead. The same has occurred for the largest egg producer in New Zealand killing over 50,000 hens. There have even been speculations that these top food items will be in short supply for this year.

Rumors of War
On Saturday, February 4, 2023, what the Chinese are calling a weather balloon, but what the US is classifying as a spy balloon, was shot down out of the sky in Myrtle Beach, SC. The balloon, which was the size of three school buses, managed to float across areas in the US that contained sensitive missile defense sites and nuclear weapons sites. "A U.S. official, speaking on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the balloon did fly over some sensitive bases, but the U.S. believes it did not have the ability to collect information beyond what China already does through its sophisticated spy satellites" (NBC News). Since the shoot-down, US Navy has been working diligently on debris recovery efforts so the FBI can analyze what was contained within the balloon. After collecting debris from the Atlantic Ocean, the US has been able to determine that the balloon contained technology to monitor communication signals. "A high-ranking Chinese diplomat has called on the US to return the debris from the spy balloon shot down over the weekend, saying that failure to give back the parts would be more proof that the Americans have been “dishonest” in the conflict" (New York Post).

Extreme Weather Events
Catastrophic natural disasters have been no stranger to the 2020s. But as this decade continues along the timeline of infinity, it seems like major weather continues to persist.
It seems as if the terms bomb cyclone and atmospheric river were referenced so many times in the 2020s. And up until this point, I had never even heard these terms used before. At the beginning of January, California experienced "a parade of storms" that led to deadly flooding, snow, mudslides, thunderstorms, and tornadoes. This string of storms brought record-breaking rain to the West Coast and left a trail of destruction and death in its path.
At the latter end of 2022, a blizzard wreaked havoc in Buffalo, NY, and was called a "once-in-a-generation event." All reports regarding the blizzard have called it "the worst snow event ever witnessed", "blizzard of the century", and the "most devastating storm in Buffalo's history of major storms."
As if that wasn't enough, Buffalo experienced a 3.8 magnitude earthquake on February 6, 2023, which was called the strongest earthquake in 40 years.
Oddly enough, another earthquake occurred on February 6, 2023, in Turkey-Syria which left over 12,000 people dead and counting. The 7.8 magnitude earthquake which brought another 100 aftershocks with it, is being called the strongest earthquake to hit the region in over 100 years. Thousands of buildings have collapsed, hundreds of thousands of residents are displaced, and thousands more are still stuck underneath the rubble. Freezing temperatures have not made rescue efforts any easier. Syria, an already war-torn country over the past decade, once clung to Turkey for refuge and aid. Now with this devastating earthquake, both areas are in what seems to be now a perpetual state of emergency.

What Does This Mean for the Children of Yisrael?
Repent to The Most High. Gather with your Nation. Begin restoring the breach that was broken. The Most High's judgement is upon this land. The signs are clearly written. Connect with brothers and sisters who will build you up, support you, and hold you accountable. Rejoice in the Ruach of YAH. Yisrael's redemption is near. Only a remnant will be saved in this time, and you want to be sure that you're counted in that number.
